The Youth Team at our Into Work Advice Service can provide mentors to support young people aged 16 to 24. They can help with getting into:

  • education,
  • employment,
  • volunteer roles, or
  • training.

The team can also help to cover some costs of finding a job or training. For example, paying for

  • bus tickets,
  • clothes for interviews, or
  • specific training courses.

This is through the Barrier Fund, which is subject to eligibility. Contact Into Work for more information.

After you are assigned a mentor, they can meet with you close to where you live and help you set out your goals. They can work with you to help achieve these in a number of ways:

Education

The team can help you explore your options and apply for further learning, like:

  • courses,
  • college, or
  • university.

Employment

The team can help you to:

  • find and apply for jobs,
  • update your CV, and
  • work on your interview skills.

Training

If you need specific training for a type of job, the team can help you to learn and progress your skills. For example, this could help you to qualify for jobs where you need a:

  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card to work in construction, or
  • Personal Track Safety (PTS) card to work on the railways.

If you are a care leaver, the team’s youth mentors may be able to work with you to access programmes like the Bright Start Traineeship Scheme.

How to get support

The Into Work Youth Team visits different areas of Cardiff, running on specific days from:

  • Hubs,
  • Job Centres, and
  • Supported Accommodation Projects.

Read more about the service on the Into Work website, or visit your local Hub for more information.
